Busy Busy!

Well, it’s definitely been a busy month, that’s for sure.

Including today and tomorrow, the boys have actually only been in school for 5 days this month.

Zack is, of course, rather happy with that! Although the boredom is starting to kick him – you should have seen how happy he was to be getting ready for school this morning! In general though, he’s been happy getting to chill at home, play outside in this gorgeous weather, and play his games. He’s completed another one over this holiday. Super Mario Bros for the Wii? Well, I can only get to half way through the first world, and he’s completed all eight!

Max, on the other hand. Well, at first he was quite the thing, but after going back to nursery for all of three days last week, and then having to stay at home again. He’s been withdrawing a lot. All he wants to do is hide in his bed (or my bed), with the iPad, or DS to play on. He’ll come to me to ask for milk or something to eat, but then he’ll take it upstairs again. On one hand, it’s been a huge change from what we used to get, which was a VERY screamy Max! On the other hand, I don’t like him being all on his lonesome up there.

It’s been such beautiful weather, and we’ve been in the garden loads, but this weekend Max just didn’t want to go out at ALL.

I had to drag him out of bed and down the stairs to even get him to come outside. Despite Zack and I playing with bubbles (his absolute favourite thing in the ENTIRE world!), he just cried and screamed till I opened the back door and let him in again. Five minutes later he’d found the hidden iPad, and was back in his bed.

I really wish the people who decide when holidays are would THINK a bit more Β when they are planning holidays.

What about the kids who have exams next week and haven’t been able to have the usual support of their teachers to study for them?

What about the mums and dads who have to find more money for child-minding, or try to get more time off work, when they already have the seven weeks of summer holidays to think of, and October break, and Christmas break.

What about those of us who have little ones that NEED routine. That NEED the help of others?

I certainly hope that the powers that be will be a little less trigger happy with their dates around April holidays next year.

So, that’s been us the last week!

I’ve got today, and tomorrow, and then another four day weekend.

I will be watching the Royal wedding.

I can tell Zack that it’s history in the making, and that way I will have at least a partially cartoon/game-free day! πŸ˜‰

How have you been coping with the holidays this month?

Ooh, and are you a closet Royal fan… will you be watching the celebrations tomorrow?

As far as I’m concerned, I just hope that they have a wonderful day! After all, that’s what it’s about, isn’t it?

*hugs* and sparkles πŸ˜‰

Ok ok ok I confess! I’m a closet royal fan!
Well …. we are a colony after all lol.

  2. April 27, 2011 / 10:21 am

I am watching the wedding. Mostly because I am American and live here and I think it is part of the fine print when you are American and living in the UK that you must pay attention to these things.

  3. April 27, 2011 / 10:32 am

I’m not a royal fan and probably won’t watch, but I’m also not a screamy OMG how can you WATCH IT eeeeek kind of person. Just not my thing I guess! Maybe if I had girlfriends to sit and gossip with it would be different?

I hope Max emerges once his routine is back. Hugs. xx

People don’t realise who disruptive school holidays can be for children, let alone those with special needs. Amy needs routine and continuity; but during the holidays all that goes out the window and it makes for a very unpleasant time. Not all the time of course, but probably half of it.

    CJ xx

I will be watching purely because I have a 5 year old daughter. For her, a wedding that makes an ordinary person into a princess is pure magic and about the best thing that could ever happen. Personally, I think it’s costing way too much and they’re making too much fuss about it, but then I’m not a 5 year old girl!

I hope Max is soon back to his normal self. It must be really hard to watch.

  6. April 27, 2011 / 10:56 am

Hehe, good point! Well, I think that if I explain who they are, and that they’ll be King and Queen one day, he’ll watch at least a bit of it… mind you, that may not happen till we’re in our 60/70s! LOL

  7. April 27, 2011 / 10:58 am

See I know there will be plenty of people around twitter to chatter with about it! That’s most of the fun! πŸ˜‰
I’ve not had a call from the nursery, so I’m assuming he’s calmed down after his grumpiness the whole way there and general “nonono”-ness about leaving his bed! LOL x

  8. April 27, 2011 / 10:59 am

I think it’s easier when they’re younger. It doesn’t take too much for me to keep Max entertained. I’m not looking forward to the summer holidays one bit though… *shudders*
Fingers crossed we manage to keep our kids from driving us completely batty by the end of it! πŸ˜‰ xx

  9. April 27, 2011 / 11:00 am

Indeed. I’m pretty sure they’d have been happy with a quiet affair, but with it being a royal wedding, it’s impossible, isn’t it?
    *hugs* xx

I will be on the Bucks Fizz and bacon rolls at 10:30 – a mate is hosting a girlie day party with much eating an ooh-ing and aah-ing – and I’m anti-royalty me. The Β£5 billion it is costing the country is enough for each primary and secondary school in the UK to have Β£197,000 added to their annual budget this year. Scary huh? I wish someone could tell me WHY they decided to have the wedding on a flippin’ Friday anyway… what’s wrong with Saturday? Less disruptive for schools, employers and all the other proles they probably didn’t give a second thought to.

The school “holidays” have just been mental this month. Kathryn has her art exam tomorrow (she LOVES the crayons but has had little time to look at that gorgeous book, I must get it back to you and just buy a copy, it’s lovely). After that she’s off Friday/Monday and straight into her exams on the Tuesday. She’s got Panic at the Disco on Monday night – I think a bit of a whoop up before the exams is a fine idea πŸ˜‰ School being OPEN would have been a fine idea too mind you… I think a few of her friends are a bit stressed out (I don’t encourage stressing about exams – meh to that!)

  11. April 27, 2011 / 11:27 am

It was Kathryn I was thinking about when I wrote about the exams. Mind you, she’s such a clever lassie I’m sure she’ll sail through them! I’m glad she loves the crayons. I’ve decided I’m gonna go about collecting all 126 colours. Even if it does take me ten years or so to do it! LOL
The book is only about 10-12 quid on amazon, which is pretty good! πŸ˜‰
We will simply have to meet up one morning for tea and cake, or… something. Well, anyway – I’m free till 1.30pm at the mo, and it’ll be going up each week. Still, can stay in Perth till about 12ish now, couple of hours is better than none! πŸ˜‰
Hope you have a great time on Friday! I wish I could gate-crash it! hehe πŸ™‚ xx

  12. April 27, 2011 / 1:07 pm

Although I was home schooled and never experienced the public school holidays, I can see how they could be completely disruptive and I support you 100% πŸ™‚ I won’t be watching the wedding, but only because it’s finals week at our university:)

  13. April 27, 2011 / 1:32 pm

Haha indeed! What time will it be at yours when it’s on though? Surely you won’t stay up to watch it?? :O x

  14. April 27, 2011 / 1:33 pm

Ahh, well university comes first! Good luck with the finals sweety, I know you’ll do well! πŸ™‚ xx

  15. April 27, 2011 / 4:22 pm

We’ll be driving to York, dammit I thought it was on Saturday! Eliza is off to school in Red white and blue tomorrow and I have flags! I am a bit of a closet fam, Princess Diana came to my playgroup in the late 70’s early 80’s I forget 82? ANd I gave her some flowers. I am into it I guess. Despite the whole killing and stealing land to be who they are etc etc!

Poor Max, I’m not big into routines we just trundle along. I do like routine, but it doesn’t affect us like it affects you.

  16. April 27, 2011 / 10:02 pm

Ahh nooo! At least you know there will be a TON of news coverage and shows about it afterwards, eh? πŸ™‚
It’s been really odd to see him withdraw like this. Mind you, it’s a lot better than the constant grumpy whiny screamy-ness we used to get from him, so I’m counting my blessings! lol πŸ™‚ xxx

  17. April 27, 2011 / 10:02 pm

Roll on next Tuesday, that’s all I’m saying! πŸ˜‰ xx

  18. May 1, 2011 / 12:32 am

I used to be like Zack, up at ready for school at 7am after holidays!

Hopefully routine settles back in quickly for you for Max’s sake. And yours.

  19. May 1, 2011 / 3:27 pm

If I was a closet Royal fan I think I leapt out of said closet covered in red, white and blue and singing the national anthem on Friday! lol!

  20. May 1, 2011 / 3:39 pm

Same here! It just gets boring after a while, and he’s missing his wee friends! >_<

  21. May 1, 2011 / 3:40 pm

Haha indeed! I think a lot of people realised that on Friday! πŸ™‚
