First Day With NO Buggy

Today was the first day Max went all day without being in his buggy.

We walked to nursery as usual in the morning.

He’s getting *much* better at waiting till Zack goes into school than he used to be. Normally it would have been screamy thrashing around on the ground and such.

Now it’s a bit of a tantrum, and then he will wait relatively patiently till we walk down to nursery.

After nursery I picked him up as usual and we went to a SHOP with him walking!

First time ever I’ve done that without him in the buggy.

He did SO well.

I let him pick a wee sweety, so he got a Milkybar.

Then we had to go to another shop to get some milk.

Again, he was great! Walked with me (mostly), and waited pretty well at the check out before walking home.

Then later it was time to go pick up Zack.

Normally I take the wee man in his buggy at this point as he’s always been too grumpy and tired to even contemplate walking.

Today though, he walked the whole way there and back with barely a whinge!

Looks like we’re one step closer to him becoming a bit more independent!

Oh oh OHHHH!

AAAAND! While we were in the shop, I showed him a packet of his favourite rice cakes, and asked if he wanted some.

He SAID “no!” and put it back where I’d got it from!

So all in all, we’ve had a Very Good Day!

GOOO Max!! 🙂

Yay for Max! (but boo for you – gawd I missed having a buggy to hang stuff off – first time I went into town without it my hands were tied up holding onto little ones and I bought nothing….. OK… I guess that’s yay for you too!)

One small step for him, huge leap for the family!

    C out

I think it helps, but really we do most of our walking around when he’s not there – it’s easier for me to focus just on Max that way. 😉

Indeed! Max definitely follows the learns-things-then-plateaus type of growth. We’re in a learning phase now that’s for sure! 🙂

Hehe I know what you mean! At least he’s at nursery in the mornings (possibly soon 1-2 full days a week too!) so I can go shopping properly then. And once the full time days start maybe even head into Perth and meet up with you now and then. 😀

Thanks hon! He’s definitely in a learning phase at the moment! Once he’s picked up more new things he’ll then just concentrate on them for a while and plateau, then after a while will have another learning curve. 😀

Well Done Max!!! That’s fantastic!! I can get as far as walking to the shop round the corner with mine and then he has to go in the pram because he refuses to go in the shop or even walk back towards our house direction!! Was it weird for you not pushing a pram? Goign to be so strange the day I lose the pram from my hands!

  12. March 1, 2011 / 1:27 pm

It is really strange not pushing the pram… I quite like it though! So far. 😉
I feel like there’s a lot more interaction going on between Max and I when we’re walking than when he’s sat facing forwards in the buggy.
Will still be using it here and there though, he gets tired towards the end of the wk, and I still need to get out and about!

Oh it is wonderful to be buggyless. My son is almost five so he doesn’t need to be in one, but I still use it very rarely when it is bucketing down else we are both terribly miserable by the time we get home!

    Well done Max!

Thanks! It’s definitely not a coincidence that Max’s increase in walking has coincided with the nicer weather that’s for sure! 😉

Wow, that’s brilliant, although I second what Nikkii said about the having no spare hands thing! But well done Max – that’s great going.

Haha it is definitely a mixed blessing, but a huge step forward all the same. 😀 x
