You know when your kids/spouse/dog says or does something funny/interesting/weird/stupid (the list goes on!), and you think “I’ve *totally* gotta blog that” but then it only works out at about 3 lines of a blog post and that’s just not enough so you just leave it and forget it ever happened? Well, that’s why I thought I’d start Sunday Snippets. You can write down and/or photograph something cute, funny or generally blogworthy that happens as it happens throughout the week, and every Sunday make it into a post. I figured since we’re all friends here in this bloggy community that maybe you might like to find out what others are up to as well!
- Follow me if you’re not already.
- Write your Sunday Snippets post.
- Get the button in the right sidebar over there to thwack onto your post.
- Add the link to your blog post (note I said POST, not just the blog url!) to the MckLinky at the bottom here.
- Read what some of your fellow bloggers have been up to, comment, and enjoy finding new people!
- Come back next Sunday and do it all over again. 🙂
(I changed the button, cause I wanted something a little less colourful… props to Dean for making this lil one for me, what do you think?)
Oooh this has been a fun week! With Zack at school full time, and Dean at college, Max and I have had the days to ourselves, and it’s really been pretty good, other than the meltdowns, and trying to get Zack, Max, Dean and I all out of the house first thing in the morning.
Max has been doing better and better with his PECS cards, we’ve introduced a little strip where we put down the activities he’s to do in his ‘work chair’ (a lil seat with a desk that is awesome cause it fixes together so he can’t escape!) and pull off one at a time as they’re done. So far he will go through them without too much resistance, and the tantrums we’re getting are a lot shorter (in most cases) and easier to distract him from these days.
He’s got a love of dancing now too, and has started to jump (!!!) and dance when the Imagination Movers are on tv. That and America’s Next Top Model. I swear to god he like to change the channels now he’s figured out how and if ANTM is on he’s THERE and PAYING FULL ATTENTION. Makes me giggle. 🙂
Oooh and he said PLEASE the other day! But I already blogged about that one!
My parents have taken it upon themselves to entertain Zack one afternoon a week after school as they have the whole mutual appreciation society thing going on.
This week it was Thursday that he was going there. From the moment he got up he kept saying (in a very high-pitched voice) “I’m sooo exciiiteeed!!!”, and asked me to guess why. “I get to go to GRANNY AND GRANDPA’S AFTER SCHOOOOOL!!!” (yes this was practically him shouting it from the rooftops… at 7.24am. UGH.
He had a great time. It’s great as it gives me an afternoon to chill (or maybe even go into town if I wanted) and not have to rush out to pick him up, and it’s awesome for Zack as he gets his grandparents’ undivided attention (not to mention them getting to spend time with their grandson!). Something that isn’t so easy to come by here. I am working on it though! I try to make sure that Max is ready for a rest upstairs when Zack gets home from school so we can snuggle up on the sofa, just the two of us, and play games together, sing songs, and generally just chatter about the day. I’ve gotta say, since we started doing this he’s been much easier to live with, so I think it’s something I’ll definitely be continuing!
Last but ohhhhh sooooo NOT least:
On friday my big brother drove the 3 hr drive down to ours to deliver a beautiful piano from one of his friends to give to us!
I! HAVE! A! PIANO!!
I grew up with a piano in the house, for as long as I can remember really. I had lessons, did exams (I was really quite good according to my mum, I don’t really remember that well! lol), and quit because I hated *only* learning three songs for an exam over and over again.
Then when I was about 17, and had started at my last school, a boarding school (Dollar Academy, if you’re considering boarding for your children, this is an AWESOME place for them to grow and learn) I had the opportunity to take up lessons again, without needing to do it for any reason other than loving the piano. I did, and I loved every second of it.
Of course after that the inevitable happened. I left school, went to uni, and didn’t even miss not having a piano. I was a student, young and carefree, and enjoying myself.
Once Zack was born I started to miss it though, and after I moved here (last year) I vowed that one day I’d have a piano of my own. This house is an old family house, built in the late 1800s, and the piano we have been given is about the same age. Think of the history of them both. It gives me the warm fuzzies to think of the people who have enjoyed this beautiful piano.
Seeing Max pick his way through the keys, seeming so relaxed, and listening Zack sing along and playing Twinkle Twinkle makes my home feel complete.
What are your snippets for this week?
