Taking Stock: January 2014

As it’s the end of January, I thought it was time to dust off these words and do another taking stock post, so here it is!

Making : time to comment on blogs I’ve been reading. I used to comment on others’ blogs so much, but I got out of the habit. Trying to be a little more present online.
Cooking :
Fajitas with my friends. It’s one of my favourite dishes and perfect to share with friends. I don’t make it otherwise as the kids won’t eat them!
Drinking :
More water, but still too much coke (soda to those who aren’t in the UK). Getting there though! And I’ve taken to making hot chocolate to keep myself cosy on cold days.
Still reading American Gods. Well, it’s still at the same page as last month I think! It’s a good book, but not an easy one to breeze through, you know? I go through phases of reading loads of books at once, and then barely any. I’m on the down-swing at the moment.
a partner. I know, I know, it’s silly, right? I mean I love being single in some ways – I don’t have to think about anyone else but me and my boys. But it’s hard sometimes, doing all this alone. I had a bit of a wobble last week with Max’s behaviour having taken a down-turn (better now, have introduced more visual timetables at home and it’s done the trick). It’s little things like having someone to have my back. I mean, I know that my friends and family have my back, but it’s not quite in the same way. And I miss the hugs. The big bear hugs. And the sex, obviously. But mostly I miss having someone there for support, you know? *sigh*
at new glasses. Today I went to the opticians (finally) and got my eyes checked. I’ll have my new glasses by the end of next week!
Far too much Skyrim. I’m such a geek sometimes. This is where my reading time has been going lately. The Elder Scrolls Online is out in just 3 months! CANNOT WAIT!! *sqwees”
umm, not so much at the moment. The purse strings are pulled a little tighter with the aftermath of Christmas, and I don’t really feel like I’ve been wasting my time so far this year. I’ve actually been quite productive all in all!
AHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah no. Maybe I should just take this one out… I’m never gonna be one who sews!
that I could meet That Person. You know. The One. Or at least someone I could have that zing with, that spark.
reading new blogs that I’ve found through SITS. And engaging in twitter a bit more. I feel like I’m starting to get back into my groove, blogging wise that is!
to get my provisional driving license (learner’s permit)! Finally sent away for it last week so as soon as it’s arrived I can actually start learning to drive. Scary and exciting all at once!
Google+ a bit more… spending some more time on there these days! My profile is here.
how long it’ll take for me to be ready to take my driving test. How long it’ll be before Max is in school for a full day (we’re getting there, it’s up to 1.35pm now, but still going slowly). Whether to start back at college with the August intake, or wait till the January 2015 intake. Whether it’s gonna snow (so pretty but I hate having to get out in it).
My family and friends who have been so damn supportive over the last week while I’ve been having a bit of a wobble, as Max’s behaviour went downhill for a bit. The difference it can make just having someone here to vent and chat and cry to is always a bit overwhelming! Love my girlies. <3
that I’ll meet That Guy at some point. That I’ll have my license back soon so I can start lessons by mid-feb. That these antibiotics will kick this chest infection to the curb enough for me to be back at the gym on Monday.
at the difference in my wee Max with these visual timetables set out for him at home. It’s like night and day… he’s so much more relaxed!
a massage. A lottery win. A shag.
quite good this morning, having been up early enough for a shower! Wearing my favourite perfume, Gina by Benefit. <3
Wearing: flared dark blue jeans, my favourite red shoes, a long-sleeved dark green top and a long green jumper on top. Oh, and a scarf to match, obviously. Warm is the main prerogative here at the moment! We live in a beautiful wee old house with high ceilings, so it’s not as easy to keep heated. There are days when I’m wearing two jumpers while sat at the kitchen table with the laptop!
a few new tv series at the moment. Helix, Almost Human, and Under the Dome.
That the weather we’ve had so far this year has really been more autumnal than wintry… lots of rain. Rain rain rain. It’s been feeling like the seasons are shifting months a bit over the last few years.
that even when Max puts a spanner in the works, he is still sleeping through, and is still doing SO much better (even at his worst) than he was this time last year. That I’m stronger than I thought I was. That I have the most amazing support network of friends and that makes me an insanely lucky person.
About going back to college/uni for a degree in visual communications. (aka web design, illustration, photography, videography etc). That this time next year I will have a car, both my boys will be in school full time, and I will be studying for my future.
relieved that the visuals have worked so well in helping Max’s behaviour to get back on track.
far too many sites to even begin to list them here! They’re all on my bloglovin’ profile I think?
opening up to my friends when I’m feeling a bit stressed. Accepting that I don’t have to bottle things up if I’m bothered by something. I have people in my life who want to be there for me, regardless of whether I’m having a good time or not.
with Zack while doing silly accents to make him laugh. He seems to find my “Southern American” accent (ha!) rather amusing (no you will never see it on here!). With Max when he’s asking for tickles. With my friends. <3

Lots of good things here, lovely to read about Max’s progress. And I hear you on the man thing (I’m putting those thoughts on ice right now) and the lack of reading, though here it’s due to the discovery of Blake’s 7 on youtube AND my little android tablet that I got at Christmas that means I can watch almost anything, at any time. Dangerous! xx

Now I’ve got my kindle fire, I’m using it to watch ALL THE THINGS on Netflix… that plus the game that I’ve got sucked into again, and reading’s gone out the window!I’m so relieved that Max’s behaviour is getting better again. It was tough going for a couple of weeks there. Swings and roundabouts though with our kids, isn’t it? *hugs* xx

I, too, am guilty of not commenting enough. Good luck with everything: deciding what you want is the first major step!

Thanks Hannah! I’m excited about getting started! With driving lessons, with going back to college etc, with getting back in shape going to the gym. This is the year of getting things DONE! 🙂

Good luck with learning to drive! I didn’t get my license until I was 21 because I was scared to learn… but once I got the hang of it, it was fine! I’m still not a very courageous driver though. Like, I don’t like driving through the mountains (I might fall off the edge) or downtown in the city. I probably wouldn’t be able to drive in the UK because of the whole opposite side of the road thing!

Thanks Angel! I’m turning 30 in March, and this will be the first time I’ve ever had lessons. I just never had the need before!I don’t think I’d ever be confident enough to drive abroad either, but never say never I suppose! 🙂

Nothing silly about wanting a partner!
I had sewing on my list last year. I even took lessons and made a skirt. Glad I did it, but it also was a good way of letting me know that I needed to remove it from my list permanently–lol.

Oh that’s better than me! LOL!My mum is always on call for sewing emergencies! 😉

Nothing silly about wanting a partner – esp. when you’re a single parent! Don’t know how folk manage parenting alone…Fajitas are a fav. of mine too 🙂
And I get through my water quarter each day by adding a slice of lemon, or elderflower cordial – just plain water is yuck!!
A really great Taking Stock list – just sorry it’s taken me so long to catch up with the BftH group posts…

Claire, I’ve been lagging behind with mine too. I want to read every post but I just always have the time! The “mark as read” button has become my friend.Regarding the single parenting, well… you just do it, you know? If you were to find yourself in that situation you’d do it too. And tbh it’s not all bad. Any decisions to made are mine to make, and I have full control of the tv remote and what I want to do with my life (so long as it’s something I can do around my boys of course). 🙂
