Where’s Your Favourite Place to Blog?

When it comes down to you *really* getting going, where’s the place that you always seem to get that flow?

For me? It seems to be the kitchen.

When I had a laptop, the kitchen was always my favourite place to write. Then I didn’t have one for a while, and now that I have a netbook, it’s back to being my favourite writing ‘zone’.

I think I’ve figured out why that is now too. It’s always the tidiest room in the house! It’s the one place that I constantly try to make sure it clean and tidy, surfaces wiped, dishes put away. Plus the light in here is lush. South facing full length glass door means lots of beautiful Autumn light is streaming into my kitchen, but not where I sit, which is a big plus compared to where my Mac is in my living room.

There are less distractions there.

The kids’ toys are always strewn over the living room. My room is always full of the Laundry Pile. That just leaves the hallway (too dark, not to mention stairs aren’t that comfy to sit on) or the kitchen.

I thought I’d ask around to see where other lovely bloggers liked to do their writing, and here’s what they said:

By far the favourite place to blog for most seems to be the sofa, and/or in bed. I can understand that, it’s comfy, it’s cosy, and once the kids are in bed it’s all yours!

Next up, my favourite place (she says while blogging at her desk in the living room, *cough*) is the kitchen. Be it a dining table, on the bunker, or maybe hiding in a cupboard (oh come on, surely I’m not the only one who’s tried to hide from children in the cupboard before…?), the kitchen is mum’s domain a lot of the time, so it makes sense that we’d want to blog there too, right?

Many of us would love an office, but it’s just not possible… some people *are* that lucky though! Only one that I know of though… *cough* not jealous at all really *cough*

And then there are those who travel so much every day that the train is their favourite place! I have to admit, I do like the idea of no children around to distract me, and nice scenery to see out the windows!

So, what’s your favourite place to blog? Where would you *like* to be able to blog, if you’re stuck with somewhere you’re not too keen on?

One day I will have a whole room dedicated as an office/photography studio just for me… or that’s what I’d like to think anyway. Ahh a girl can dream, right?

For me it has to be the sofa. I tend to do my “serious” writing (articles etc) at my desk, where internet reception is patchy, and my blogging on the sofa, sometimes in front of the TV.

I have been known to draft the odd (very odd, haha) blog post in bed, though, when the urge to let off steam about something has come over me!

I find it hard to concentrate in coffee shops, they always play their music cranked up to 11 and I find that too distracting, although I have tried it in the past. (And they sometimes have nice comfy sofas…)

Oh yes, I would love an office. I had one prior to the children, we had a three bedroom house and the back room which was really large (very lucky as was old Victorian house) doubled up as a dressing room and office. I had all my stuff up there, spent most of the day in there in fact writing about being pregnant with Mini.
Now, I am sorting out the house we are ow in, and am planning a little corner of my bedroom, for a desk (tiny) and will use my Lloyd Loom screen to separate it from the rest of the bedroom.

Scenery? What’s that? I’m asleep for the outbound journey and it’s dark by the time I’m returning!

I have my laptop set up in the main living area. For now it works brilliantly because I can be with the rest of the family and still be doing my own thing. I do tend to blog in the evenings when the children are in bed, but I am also free to have a quick read of blogs and FB then during the day. I used to have an office type room but I felt left out and then the room turned into HRH’s ‘tutoring’ room anyway, so it all worked out well 😀 Glad you are liking the new netbook:) Jen

I like the idea of blogging/writing in coffee shops, but I never really get much done for the same reason as you!

Ah, see I’m Scottish, and there’s nice scenery around with any of the trains I get! lol >_<

Oooh that sounds divine! I do have my little ‘corner’ of the living room with shelving and a desk etc.. does that count as an ‘office? >_<

    Same here… *pouts*

I kind of *have* to be in the living room as there’s nowhere else to go! Also I make sure my seat is facing out to the rest of the room so no one can get away with doing anything they shouldn’t be if I’m at the computer. 😉

I’m thinking I need to get a more comfy seat for the kitchen, then I can blog in there and escape the children. We’re meant to be getting a family desk for the sitting room though, and I’m fancying a comfy office chair where I can spin around and pretend to be important!

I used to love writing in my recliner with my feet up – actually, I can’t sit with my feet on the ground (blood pressure issues, makes me throw up). Atm I’ve got one foot on my desk and one on the back of a chair. Heh.

I’m actually planning on moving my desk, I can’t stand this dark corner anymore.

Oh yes, I miss my computer chair very much… now I have to use a kitchen seat… really not comfy to sit at! 🙁

  13. November 5, 2010 / 9:49 am

Ahh I see! I am thinking of moving around my living room a bit so my desk isn’t by the window, but then, there’s a built-in shelving unit right next to me atm that’s perfect (though needing a clearout/tidyup). *sigh*

I wouldn’t dare bring my netbook into the bathroom… too much of a possibility of splashing! lol 🙂

Thanks for the mention. Funnily enough I discovered yesterday that I work quite well in the bathroom! Toddler was playing in the bath so I tapped away. 🙂

I’m sat in my favourite place right now – I think the sofa has an imprint of my backside in it lol

  17. November 7, 2010 / 7:09 pm

Oh yes, my sofa has my arse-groove in it too. hehe 😉

  18. November 7, 2010 / 7:49 pm

Ha ha – I said backside because I didn’t want to say arse on someone elses blog!

*giggles* you haven’t seen any of my first posts then have you? 😉

  20. November 8, 2010 / 12:28 am

I’m so glad to read that I’m not the onl one who blogs in the kitchen. I love the fact its my little hideaway! I’ve also started to use the toilet!! Hehe..

  21. November 8, 2010 / 3:11 pm

LOL! I always have to hide in the loo if I want to go on my iPhone or the boys want it! 😉
