I’ve never been the most patient person… ask my mum.
Hell, ask my kids – they’ll tell you the same! I have oodles of patience when I need to, don’t get me wrong… but when it comes to wanting to get things DONE or power through something – well, just don’t get in my way, and for the love of god don’t slow me down!
We’ve been right in the middle of the two storms known as the Beast from the East and Storm Emma. Basically we’ve had nearly 2 foot of snow and it’s not showing any signs of going away soon – in fact it’s still snowing while I type this. Our little town has run out of milk, and there’s not any bread to be found either.ย That’s two of Max’s staples in a very limited diet right there.
It’s been interesting though – as there’s been no milk in the fridge, Max has actually taken to drinking water! Something that even just a few months ago he wouldn’t have done. He’s not happy about it, and he keeps asking me for milk, but his understanding is so much better these days, so now I can explain to him that no big trucks can get through the snow, and he gets it.
The snow has made us stay home, stay cosy, and take some unexpected time out from everything life throws our way.
I mean, ok, so in some ways it sucks to be stuck in and we’re all definitely getting a bit of cabin fever, but having this extra time off thanks to the snow closing all schools in our area (and many beyond!) has really been quite a blessing.
We’re all enjoying a bit of family time. Watching movies, snowball fights, gaming our hearts out (I may be known as sometimes getting sucked into a game and not realising four hours have passed. *cough*), and generally enjoying each others’ company. It’s been a welcomed and a celebrated change of pace for us all.
And although Max is shouting grumpily at the game he’s getting annoyed at right now, maybe it’s been good for us all to get to the point where we’re a bit on the bored side, and looking forward to getting back to the norm.
I know I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to our usual routine of school and work this week!
So maybe having this time out of reality has been a good way of reminding me to appreciate normal that little bit more. Who knows! I know one thing for sure though… I’m so over the snow!
