Monday Motivation – What The Snow Taught Me About Patience

Monday Motivation – What The Snow Taught Me About Patience

I’ve never been the most patient person… ask my mum.

Hell, ask my kids – they’ll tell you the same! I have oodles of patience when I need to, don’t get me wrong… but when it comes to wanting to get things DONE or power through something – well, just don’t get in my way, and for the love of god don’t slow me down!

We’ve been right in the middle of the two storms known as the Beast from the East and Storm Emma. Basically we’ve had nearly 2 foot of snow and it’s not showing any signs of going away soon – in fact it’s still snowing while I type this. Our little town has run out of milk, and there’s not any bread to be found either.Β That’s two of Max’s staples in a very limited diet right there.

It’s been interesting though – as there’s been no milk in the fridge, Max has actually taken to drinking water! Something that even just a few months ago he wouldn’t have done. He’s not happy about it, and he keeps asking me for milk, but his understanding is so much better these days, so now I can explain to him that no big trucks can get through the snow, and he gets it.

The snow has made us stay home, stay cosy, and take some unexpected time out from everything life throws our way.

I mean, ok, so in some ways it sucks to be stuck in and we’re all definitely getting a bit of cabin fever, but having this extra time off thanks to the snow closing all schools in our area (and many beyond!) has really been quite a blessing.

We’re all enjoying a bit of family time. Watching movies, snowball fights, gaming our hearts out (I may be known as sometimes getting sucked into a game and not realising four hours have passed. *cough*), and generally enjoying each others’ company. It’s been a welcomed and a celebrated change of pace for us all.

And although Max is shouting grumpily at the game he’s getting annoyed at right now, maybe it’s been good for us all to get to the point where we’re a bit on the bored side, and looking forward to getting back to the norm.

I know I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to our usual routine of school and work this week!

So maybe having this time out of reality has been a good way of reminding me to appreciate normal that little bit more. Who knows! I know one thing for sure though… I’m so over the snow!

I know right? I’m looking forward to school pick up so we can have a catch up! xx

How great that he chose water because there was no milk. I have that problem too, only it’s orange squash for us, and only a certain brand. I am sick of the snow too. We didn’t have much here in the midlands but we did get snowed in for three days and although I normally enjoy having my kids home I couldn’t wait for them to go back to school this time, I’ve never known them fight with each other so much. #TheMMLinky

It’s definitely a test of patience, being stuck in like that, isn’t it? We finally got both bread and milk today – YAY!! I’ve been working on getting him to drink a bit of water daily by telling him it’ll help his “sore tummy” (chronic constipation… the joys!), and it seems to be working! <3 x

My patience had definitely been tested over the past few days because of the snow. Fortunately we have returned to normality and the kids are back at school. #TheMMLinky

Like you I can get impatient when obstacles are put in my way and stop plans I have. I’m taking a more proactive positive stance from now and trying to draw the line in the stand about things that are out of my control

Go you! It’s hard to be patient when we’re feeling stuck isn’t it? Well done on being proactively positive! <3 x

Your so right. I love the snow for giving every one some time to breath and feel closer together. Patience isn’t my strong point either, but we try lol x

Ha it’s not mine either! I figure I use it all up on parenting… so extra days can be a bit of a shock to the system. Thank goodness we’re back to normal though right? <3 x

Looked terrible from what I saw from my place in France where we only had a little snow. Having said that bad weather can bring valuable quality time together much like Christmas in some ways. #TheMMLinky

Thanks Kate, it was beautiful and fun for a while, but then it just got annoying! πŸ˜‰ You’re so right though – it felt like an extra little holiday where we could just relax and stay home πŸ™‚ x

I do love a snow day, but over here we’re far more used to them and the infrastructure is more able to cope, which definitely makes the prospect more appealing! I love getting a bonus day to just chill and play with the kids though, I treat it as a day off for me too. In fact, we had one yesterday and it was lovely πŸ™‚

  11. Nice post It was fun to get some snow, in some ways, and in other ways it was a complete nuisance! But I’m pretty sure spring is here to stay now… right? x

We are at the other end of the country but experienced the same. We had four snow days and as two of my children are all about the routine and knowing what is happening next, this was a challenge as schools were only updating each morning. However, like you, we spent time playing games, watching movies and some unplanned family time. As I write this, the snow is coming down again, we’re now experiencing “mini beast from the east” but thankfully this doesn’t seem to be settling much and life will continue as planned.
