Now You Are Ten: The Max Edition

Now You Are Ten: The Max Edition

Max, you are TEN! I can’t quite believe it. How did my little dude get so grown up?!

I swear it feels like yesterday that you were just a newborn, a toddler, a pre-schooler, a little kid. Now you’re starting to grow up and it’s an absolute delight to see how far you’ve come.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a rollercoaster with both ups and downs. It’s been hard on you, me, and your big bro, but it definitely feels like we’ve turned another corner recently. You’ve finally got to the point that you’re able to stop yourself from going into a full on meltdown as soon as something doesn’t go the way you expect.

I am SO proud of you. You’re speech is coming on – you’re becoming so much clearer! You can now tell me things like what your favourite animal is (monkeys!) and your favourite colour (green! I thought it was red… oops!). You’re showing off how much you enjoy making things match – be it your apps on your iPad or the clothes you’re wearing. You’re becoming quite a style guru it seems!

The last year has been amazing, hasn’t it? You’ve started to enjoy going to the fair when it comes to town, visiting our friends up at their farm, going to the local gala, and are game for trying new things so much more often than ever before!

Most of all I’m proud of how loving and kind you’re becoming. If you see anyone sad or crying you want to go up to them to give them a hug, and then you show them how to do deep breathing (“Look at me – breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.”) to help them calm down. You’re calm and quiet around our new kitten Deenah, and have been helping me feed her and play softly with her. You’re such a sweet and compassionate wee soul.

And I know, I know, I should stop calling you my “wee dude” and “little guy”, but the truth is, you’re my last child, and you’ll always be my baby. You’ll always be my little dude.

Happy Birthday Max! I love you more, forever!

Thanks Lisa, I really am so proud of him! It’s not always been an easy ride with autism making things difficult along the way, but he’s come on so amazingly well! ❤️

Time does whizz past, doesn’t it? It seems slow and exhausting as its happening, but then one day you realise your babies aren’t babies anymore… My son just turned 4 and I’m already missing his bsby days:(

You’re spot on there Nicole! It’s amazing how quickly it flies even though it feels like it drags while you’re going through it, lol! 🙂
