Twitter in the good old days

I joined Twitter back in May 2008.

Six years ago.

Shit, hold on, really?

Yeah, ok, now I feel like time is *really* slipping away from me.

Anyway, back then Twitter was still considered pretty new, and us bloggers? Well, we were just starting to grasp the whole concept.

And oh it was fun!

All the banter back and forth, sharing the odd blog post we found interesting, jumping into honest to god conversations!

Then it got big.

Really big.

Now it’s at the point where even my parents know what it is (sorry Mum and Dad!).

Everybody is on Twitter.

It’s no longer just the geeks and bloggers.

And as such, it’s harder to find those conversations.

It wasn’t until this evening when I spent the best part of an hour chatting to Liz, Rachael and Carol that I realised how much I missed it.

Twitter used to be something I’d check all the time.

But then it got diluted with so so many people posting ALL THE THINGS ALL OF THE TIME, that it took too long to actually find the good bits.

Today has proven to me they’re still there.

A little more difficult to find, but still there.

So maybe I’ll spend some more time on Twitter again and see what sort of conversations I end up in.

Cause if they’re anything like today’s, I’ll be in really good company.

Sharing is caring:

Twitter has changed for sure, sometimes I think for better, sometimes for the worse. I joined in 2008 and abandoned that account as the whole thing was just too incomprehensible for me. Rejoining 3 years ago it made more sense. I loved the conversations, I miss those.

I think it’s just a case of being online at the right time these days. Something that I forget about really. Like if I want to chatter about a tv program I’m watching, that’s one thing, but I’ve noticed that after school is a time when lots of people I like to chatter to are about. So I’m going to be making the effort to be on at those times. It’s soooo easy to get sucked in though and end up on there for a few hours with all the links I end up opening! 😉

Awww I’ve missed it too. It used to be lovely hopping on and having a chat and you’re right it’s not really like that anymore. Was SO good to talk to you all yesterday ((hugs)) xx

Was great chatting to you too! Maybe we should start scheduling a time for chattering… but then it’s not as fun without the spontaneity is it?

“so many people posting ALL THE THINGS ALL OF THE TIME”
When people say this to me I suggest that they look at who they are following and create lists or just unfollow people. It’s your time and it should be content-rich for the things you want to read, talk about and have conversations about. I constantly update my timeline – and my biggest bugbear is when people call me out for unfollowing them – but to me it’s as simple as changing the TV channel. If it’s not going to hold my attention then there’s no point in my staying tuned in.

So true Nickie! I think the thing is the thought of going through all the people I follow is such a daunting task as it is, I end up not bothering!

I joined it in 2007, or maybe 2008, I don’t remember. Quite liked it I guess but I never really “got” it. I deleted my account a couple of years later and now some other b****r has got my name, so I never bothered rejoining.
Should I? Is it worth it? I sometimes do wonder if I should go back 🙂

I never actually closed my account so I was lucky from that pov I think. I really enjoy it these days, I end up with farrrr too many tabs open on my browser from interesting tweets. Don’t know if I would want to start a new one now though…

Well I just started a new one last night. And you know what, I have no idea WHY. I don’t know what to post, or whom to talk to! I have completely forgotten how to do Twitter, it would seem.
